Royal Pharmaceutical Society Proposals for Change

Following an independent, 18-month-long review of their constitution and governance, the RPS is setting out ambitious proposals for change.

The pharmacy landscape in the UK is changing rapidly, and these changes are set to continue and accelerate in the years to come. The expectations placed upon pharmacists and the wider pharmacy team will have profound repercussions for professionals and in terms of delivering patient care.

Rapid changes in medicines development will continue to transform patient care and service delivery, and these changes will impact on pharmacy. Technology (health tech, data science, AI), will continue to impact not only on medicines and the work of the pharmacy team but on the expectations of patients.

Read more about these changes here and add your feedback in person at the Bristol roadshow which can be booked here.

The National Health Service (Pharmaceutical and Local Pharmaceutical) Regulations 2013

There has been a rise in made-to-measure FP10s being issued.

The regulations state, subject to sub-paragraph (4), Pharmacy receives [as a nominated dispensing contractor] from the Electronic Prescription Service an electronic prescription form which contains an order of a kind specified in paragraph (a) (i) to (iii) and—

(i)any person requests the provision of drugs or appliances in accordance with that prescription, or

(ii)Pharmacy has previously arranged with the patient that P will dispense that prescription on receipt.

This means that if your main business is dispensing medications then you MUST signpost to the nearest Dispensing appliance contractor

NHS 10-Year Plan Webinars

Community Pharmacy England will be hosting two webinars to discuss the Government's NHS 10-year plan and to help pharmacy owners or others who want to feed into it.

Last month the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care launched a national conversation on the NHS, seeking input and ideas to inform a 10-year plan for the NHS. This could not come at a more critical time for community pharmacies, making it vital for the sector to feed into the process. Community Pharmacy England's two upcoming webinars will advise pharmacy owners on how they can best engage with the public conversation on the NHS plan.

The webinars will provide more detail on how the plan is being developed, outline opportunities for pharmacy owners to have their say, and describe the ways in which Community Pharmacy England is responding on behalf of the sector.
