Stroke Prevention Day 2025

Today is Stroke Prevention Day and this year the Stroke Association is focusing on raising awareness that high blood pressure is the biggest risk factor for stroke and it plays a part in about half of all strokes.  Today, and the rest of this week could be a good opportunity to try offer additional BP checks to patients through the Hypertension Case-Finding Service! More information can be found on the Stroke Association website here.

This #StrokePreventionDay we're proud to support the Stroke Association and join them in encouraging everyone to check their blood pressure so that we can stop stroke before it happens. Find out more at stroke.org.uk/stroke-prevention-day #SPD25

Join the Big Conversation on Pharmacy Professional Leadership

The UK Pharmacy Professional Leadership Advisory Board (UKPPLAB) is launching a ‘Big Conversation’ as part of a ground-breaking collaborative approach to shaping pharmacy professional leadership for the future. Interactive webinars will be held across the UK from 3rd to 25th February 2025, giving pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and wider pharmacy team members an opportunity to have their say on a proposed vision and common purpose for pharmacy professional leadership.

All webinars are open to everyone. To read more information about the Board’s work and a press release about the engagement exercise, please see here.

Community Pharmacy Patient Safety Group

The Community Pharmacy Patient Safety Group (CPPSG), hosted by the CCA, is made up of the 16 largest community pharmacy organisations, as well as the Independent Pharmacies Association (IPA), National Pharmacy Association (NPA) and Numark - (see more details on the PSG here.)
The CPPSG are currently supporting the work of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH), in collaboration with the Neonatal and Paediatric Pharmacists Group (NPPG).  NHS England tasked these two organisations (RCPCH and NPPG) with improving dispensing practices for liquid medicines to help improve medication safety. The goal is to build a cross-sector system of best practices (including the best way to communicate liquid dosing). To ensure community pharmacies are represented in this work, the CPPSG has helped to create a survey for community pharmacy staff involved in dispensing oral liquid medicines. This survey can be found here.
