Bringing Sexual Health Home

Devon Sexual Health to lead local GP and Pharmacy services from October 2025

Devon and Torbay Public Health teams are pleased to announce that from 1st October 2025, the responsibility for commissioning, paying, and supporting General Practice and community pharmacy to deliver sexual and reproductive health services is being transferred to Devon Sexual Health.  Devon Sexual Health – www.devonsexualhealth.nhs.uk

This positive development has been widely welcomed and follows a successful procurement process which ran in 2024/2025.

Devon Sexual Health will continue to deliver specialist services and will further develop their role as local system leaders, bringing community based VCSE and Primary Care services together. This will continue to be done in partnership with Devon and Torbay Public Health teams.

This marks a significant step forward in enhancing community-based care. The transition means that clinicians from Devon Sexual Health will now be directly supporting and commissioning local services, helping to ensure that sexual and reproductive health provision is more accessible and responsive to the needs of our diverse populations.

Devon and Torbay Public Health teams look forward to the continued collaboration between GPs, pharmacists, voluntary and community-based organisations, and Devon Sexual Health in delivering high-quality, strong, and inclusive care across the region.

Article and Resources to Support Pharmacists to Find a DPP

Are you considering applying for one of the Independent Prescribing courses?  Vicky Webb from the Teach and Treat Scheme has pulled together some resources to help you identify a suitable DPP.

Here you can find some resources to help you identify a suitable DPP so you can undertake your prescribing course.

We cannot emphasise enough the importance of identifying a DPP within your network, as those are the relationships that will continue beyond completing your prescribing qualification. As we move towards there being an NHS-commissioned prescribing service in community pharmacy, strong relationships with local GP surgeries will be invaluable.
