World Pharmacists Day 25th September 2025

Thursday 25th September 2025 marks this year’s World Pharmacists Day, an annual awareness day and global event led by the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP).

This year’s theme is “Think Health, Think Pharmacist”, an opportunity to celebrate and make visible the profession’s contributions to better health outcomes. It is also a time to advocate for the full integration of pharmacists into health strategies and to remind governments, institutions, and stakeholders that investing in pharmacists is investing in a healthier future for all.  Pharmacists are the most accessible members of healthcare systems and every day they help meet critical health needs.

The team and committee members at Community Pharmacy Devon wants to say thank you to all of our community pharmacists and their teams as you work so hard to support your local communities and patients.

New Clinical Pathways and PGDs

NHS England has today published the final updated clinical pathways, protocol and PGDs, as well as an update master PGD authorisation sheet on their website. We have been pushing for this to provide pharmacists with time to read the updated documents and sign the authorisation sheet ahead of 1st October.

The current service documents will remain in place until 11:59pm on Tuesday 30th September 2025, and are available on the NHSBSA website.

NHS England will announce this in their Primary Care Bulletin on Thursday and we will publish information on our website following the Bulletin being emailed out. However, we thought it would be helpful to make you aware of this now in case you are getting any queries on this.

The Community Pharmacy Devon Awards - Winners and Nominees!

It was fantastic to see so many familiar faces gathered on the 14th September to celebrate the incredible work happening across our community pharmacies. The event was all about recognising the dedication, innovation, and impact of our teams – from frontline care to behind-the-scenes brilliance.

Below is a list of the nominees and winners! For photos, please click here

Community Pharmacist of the year

Our first award celebrated an individual who has gone above and beyond in their role—whether through clinical excellence, patient care, leadership, or innovation.

The Distinguished award went to Will Farmer of Exminster Pharmacy.

Also receiving a distinguished award was Marek Poole of Well Pharmacy, Plainmoor.

And the winner of the award  was Liam Giblin of Boots Pharmacy, Honiton.

This was a very closely fought award but Liam pipped it in the end! Liam's nomination was based on his drive and determination which ensures that every patient is cared for as if they’re the only person who matters. We heard that patients love when Liam is working as they know their medication and well-being is top priority. He does all of this whilst also showing compassion and support for his fellow employees.

Community Pharmacy of the Year

This award recognised a pharmacy that has consistently delivered outstanding service, embraced new initiatives, and supported their community with heart and professionalism.

The highly commended award went to Southwest Pharma.

The Distinguished award went to Morton’s Pharmacy.

And the winner was SMD Pharmacy.

SMD Pharmacy have truly exemplified collaboration and patient-centred care. Through strong partnerships with local GPs and district nurses, they’ve boosted referrals, supported housebound patients, and eased pressure on the wider system—showing the powerful impact of pharmacy at the heart of primary care.

Community Pharmacy Team Member of the Year

Behind every great pharmacy is a great team—and this award honoured a standout individual who’s made a big impact, whether through customer service, operational support, or clinical contribution.

The Highly commended award went to Denise Vinson of Well Pharmacy, Croft Hall.

The Distinguished award went to Stefka llieva-Cazac of Clarepharm, Honiton .

This year’s Pharmacy Team Member of the Year winner went to Sydney Kersey of Pharmaderma, Okehampton.

Sydney is someone who brings compassion, quick thinking, and creativity to every shift. Syd’s calm response during a medical emergency, dedication to customer care, and commitment to professional growth—plus founding the Pharmaderma choir! - make her a truly inspiring and deserving winner.

Gold Star

This one is for the dream teams – The Gold Star Award is all about recognising those unsung heroes—people who may not always be in the spotlight but whose work shines brightly.

The Highly Commended award went to Louise Thorne of Dawlish Warren Pharmacy.

The Distinguished award went to Sian Retallick of Poole Earth, Plymouth.

The Gold Star Award went to Terri-Leigh Hill of Well Pharmacy, St Budeaux.

Terri is someone whose warmth, attention to detail, and genuine care make a real difference every day. Whether it’s remembering a patient’s prescription or creating a calm, welcoming space in a busy pharmacy, she goes the extra mile.

Special Recognition Award

There was one final – and very special – award; the Special Recognition Award. This award is about heart, leadership, and lasting impact.

The award went to Vicky Webb, University Hospital, Plymouth, whose support and encouragement have helped inspire confidence and open doors throughout one pharmacist’s journey to becoming an Independent Prescriber. Her impact has reached far beyond the pharmacy, connecting professionals and creating opportunities for growth.

A special mention was made for Sue Taylor who has worked for Community Pharmacy Devon for over 24 years! She put enormous work into organising the conference - arranging excellent guest speakers, sponsors and liaising with the venue to ensure everything ran smoothly - it wouldn't have been possible without her.

The awards were ably presented by Tom Kallis. Congratulations to all our nominees and winners!
