Independent Prescribing Training for Pharmacists 2026: Applications Now Open 

NHS England is now offering fully funded independent prescribing courses for pharmacists from all sectors, including community, locum, general practice, health and justice, and hospital settings. Courses are available at universities across England, with multiple start dates up to March 2027.

This training will support new models of care, enabling pharmacists to offer clinical services from diagnosis to prescribing, patient advice, and follow-up, as pharmacy services expand within clinical pathways.

A Celebration of Independent Pharmacy

The Independent awards are now open and will take place at The House of Commons on Friday 2nd October 2026.
 
All the finalists will join leading figures from politics, community pharmacy, the pharmaceutical supply chain and the wider NHS for the Awards luncheon.
 
The Awards will highlight the inspirational work of independent pharmacy teams across the UK – there is no better place to show the government how important pharmacies are to their local communities than the House of Commons!
 
The deadline to enter is July 22, for more information on how to enter see here.

Community Pharmacy Technician Apprenticeship Programme

The Community Pharmacy Technician Apprenticeship Programme (CPTAP) Application of Funding (AoF) window is still open.

 

The application window is from Monday 27 April 2026, 9am until Monday 18 May 2026, at midday.

 

Application of Funding (AoF) requests for the South West region, must be submitted using the South West regional online application form: South West Community Pharmacy Technician Apprenticeship Programme Regional Online Application Form.

 

If you were unable to attend a national stakeholder engagement session, you can access a recording along with the transcript and links to resources referred to on the SWAY page.

 

Regional stakeholder engagement sessions are being held to provide further information. Use the link below to register for your preferred date. You only need to attend one session.

  • Tuesday 5 May, 12:30pm to 1:30pm – Register here

  • Thursday 7 May, 7:30pm to 8:30pm – register here

 

Annual Complaints Return – Action Required by 30 April 2026 

Under the National Health Service (Pharmaceutical and Local Pharmaceutical Services) Regulations 2013, all pharmacy contractors are required to submit annual complaints report to the local Commissioning Team as soon as reasonably practicable after 31 March, marking the end of the reporting year.

We will be coming out to contractors shortly and we will share a CPE template that can be used to send in your annual complaints return 5

 

You may also use your own template, provided it includes all required information listed below.

Your annual report must include:

• The number of complaints received during the reporting period

• The number of complaints determined to be well‑founded

• The number of complaints referred to the Health Service Commissioner under the 1993 Act

Your annual report must also summarise:

• The subject matter of the complaints received

• Any matters of general importance arising from those complaints or from the way they were handled

• Any actions taken or planned to improve services as a result of the complaints

...Pharmacy contractors in Devon were eligible for a further £2765 in funding for January that was left unclaimed because they didn't claim for their Discharge Medicines service...?

Community Pharmacy Devon have secured another year of funding for our community pharmacy PCN leads. This will help continue to strengthen the relationships locally to support general practice to continue to have the awareness of the great work that community pharmacy delivers.
