Optimising Inhaler Technique: Improving Outcomes Workshop

CPPE workshops return to Barnstaple! – You are invited to an Optimising inhaler technique: improving outcomes workshop at The Barnstaple Hotel in Barnstaple on Tue 29 September 2026, 7:30-9:30pm

Optimum inhaler technique plays an important role in improving medicine adherence, clinical outcomes, quality of life and use of healthcare resources. However studies suggest that only 7 percent of healthcare professionals can demonstrate all the correct steps for using an MDI; the most commonly type of inhaler prescribed in the UK.

  • Can you effectively assess and correct people’s inhaler technique?
  • Can you demonstrate all the steps to successfully administer an inhaled dose from all the inhalers used in your practice?

This workshop is a practical session where you will have the opportunity to familiarise yourself with a variety of inhaler devices.

Pharmacy Quality Scheme 2026-27
Asthma training is a requirement for the Pharmacy Quality Scheme 2026-27. How is this knowledge of any practical use unless you are able to correctly educate patients in how to use their inhalers correctly and assess if a particular type of inhaler is suitable for them?

On completion of all aspects of this learning programme you should be able to:

  • describe the different types of inhaler devices and their instructions for use
  • outline how the delivered dose is made in each type of device
  • explain the technique required to achieve the optimum inspiratory flow for each device
  • discuss the potential implications of sub-optimal inhaler technique
  • demonstrate your role as a healthcare professional in optimising inhaled medicines.

Find out more about this workshop here.

We are also providing you with an opportunity to meet up with colleagues once more and enjoy a buffet and network before the workshop.

  • When: Tuesday 29 September 2026: 19:30 – 21:30 (buffet will be served from 18:45).
  • Where: The Barnstaple Hotel, Braunton Rd, Barnstaple EX31 1LE.
  • Audience: Pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and foundation trainee pharmacists working in any setting of practice.
