World Hypertension Day is taking place on Friday 17th May 2024!
World Hypertension Day is an ideal opportunity to highlight the importance of a blood pressure (BP) check to your patients and the potential health benefits it can bring. Remember it doesn’t have to be the pharmacist doing the BP test!
As many as 5 million adults in the UK have undiagnosed high blood pressure and don’t know they are at risk, and hypertension is the leading risk factor for death and disability globally.
With the Community Pharmacy Hypertension Case-Finding Service, pharmacy teams are ideally placed to help identify undiagnosed patients and, if needed, refer them on to start treatment early. Early diagnosis and treatment are important. If left untreated, high blood pressure can lead to complications such as kidney failure, heart failure, sight problems and vascular dementia.
