Diabetes Awareness Week: Supporting Early Detection and Better Health
Wednesday 3rd June 2026
Diabetes Awareness Week, taking place from 8–14 June 2026, provides an important opportunity for Health Champions and pharmacy teams to raise awareness of diabetes and promote early intervention. With millions of people in the UK living with the condition—and many more at risk—this campaign plays a vital role in improving long-term health outcomes.
Community pharmacies are often the first place people turn to for advice, making them ideally placed to support this campaign. Pharmacy teams can help by encouraging conversations about diabetes risk, highlighting early symptoms such as increased thirst, fatigue, and blurred vision, and signposting patients to NHS prevention and management services.
The week also offers an opportunity to reinforce the ongoing support pharmacies provide, including medicines advice, blood glucose monitoring guidance, and lifestyle support around diet, physical activity, and weight management.
By engaging with Diabetes Awareness Week, pharmacy teams can help reduce stigma, encourage earlier diagnosis, and empower individuals to take positive steps towards managing their health.
